Indore: Centre has released a fund of Rs2.52crore for Indore women and child development department for distribution of monthly financial assistance to 788 children registered under Mission Vatsalya after their one or both the parents died due to Covid-19.
“We have received a budget of Rs 2.52 crore to start providing the monthly financial aid to children registered under Mission Vatsalya,” Indore WCD district programme officer Ramnivas Budholiya said, adding that a total 788 kids out of 1,077 registered under Mission Vatsalya will get financial aid of eight months — Rs 32,000 each — from the time of their registration.
“After receiving the budget, we have started verification of children registered under the scheme to check, if due to any reason, their eligibility was affected,” he said, further explaining that a single parent getting remarried is one of the reasons for her/his children losing eligibility to get the monthly financial assistance.
As per official records, a total 1,077 children have so far registered under Mission Vatsalya after approval from the child welfare committee and a district-level committee led by the collector. Many of them were provided monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,000 for around one year with the help of local donors.
After the donors stopped extending financial support, the department shifted them under Mission Vatsalya and other schemes of the central and state government to get some aid to meet their basic needs. At presently, there are more than 20,000 children across Madhya Pradesh and many of them have yet not received the financial assistance even for a month despite passing several months of their enrolment, the sources said.
