The 24 solar terms, consisting of 12 major solar terms and 12 minor solar terms, were created thousands of years ago by the ancient Chinese to guide agricultural production.
Today, the culture behind the terms provides useful guidance to people’s lives as each term features special food, cultural ceremonies and healthy living tips.
“Bailu,” or White Dew, is the 15th solar term on the Chinese lunar calendar. It falls on Sept. 7 this year. White Dew indicates the real beginning of cool autumn. Temperatures gradually go down and vapors in the air often condense into white droplets on the grass and trees at night.
As summer heat keeps dissipating and temperatures gradually cool down, people are led into a period of time perfect for sporting activities.
