A sub-inspector (SI) of the Uttar Pradesh Police was shot fatally when he was riding a motorcycle near Chandpur village of Firozabad district on Thursday evening.
The deceased, Dinesh Kumar Mishra (54), a native of Agra, was posted at the Araon police station in Firozabad.
The police said the incident occurred when Mishra was returning to the police station from Chandpur village where he had gone for investigation in a dowry case. Another person was riding the pillion at the time, they added.
Teams from different police stations rushed to the spot and took Mishra to hospital where he died during treatment.

“The incident took place in a secluded place. Multiple teams have been formed to investigate the case and arrest the culprits. The Gangsters’ Act will be invoked against the accused,” said Firozabad Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashish Tiwari.
In the preliminary inquiry, it was found that motorcycle-borne assailants came from behind and shot the Sub-Inspector from a close range, said Additional Superintendent of Police Sarvesh Kumar Mishra.
A bullet hit the SI on his neck, he added.
