Datteswar Hota appointed 1st vice-chancellor of Odisha health university

Bhubaneswar: Governor Ganeshi Lal on Friday appointed Datteswar Hota as the first vice-chancellor of Odisha University of Health Sciences (OUHS), Bhubaneswar. The appointment is for one year, according to an official notification.

Chancellor of Odisha University of Health Sciences, Bhubaneswar, has been pleased to appoint Datteswar Hota as the first vice-chancellor of Odisha University of Health Sciences, Bhubaneswar for one year with effect from the date he assumes charge.

Prior to this, Hota served as dean and principal in-charge of SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. During his tenure as the Dean of SCB MCH, the healthcare institution had achieved many milestones, including functioning of liver transplantation unit.

He was also head of the department of urology in SCB MCH, Cuttack for a brief period. He was also appointed as the officer on special duty for Odisha University of Health Sciences, Bhubaneswar to look after the initial functioning of the university. On March 5 on the birth anniversary of former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, chief minister Naveen Patnaik has announced establishment of the much-awaited health university of the state in Bhubaneswar.

The new university aimed at imparting quality medical education to students in UG and PG courses from an array of health branches such as ayurveda, homoeopathy, allopathy, pharmacy, laboratory technology and more.

The plan to establish this one-of-its-kind university was drafted in 2021 while the Odisha University of Health Sciences Act required for the establishment of the health university was came into force in August last year.
