New Delhi: In what can be easily regarded as one of the best sporting moments in history of India, the Indian men’s badminton team scripted history on Friday by defeating Denmark 3-2 in Bangkok to reach the final of Thomas Cup 2022 for the first time ever. Notably, India has qualified for the Thomas Cup final for the first time in 73-year history of the tournament. HS Prannoy emerged as the star performer for his team as he delivered in the deciding match once again. Prannoy has showcased his top game in the entire tournament as he won the tie-deciding match for India in both Quarter Final and an edge-of-the-seat semifinal to put his team through to its first-ever Thomas cup final.

The Indian team Indian team, which never went past the semifinals after 1979, will now face 14-time champions Indonesia in the final of the 2022 Thomas Cup. Indonesia beat Japan 3-2 in the semifinals. The defending champions now will have to defend the Thomas Cup title against an Indian side in which every single player has shown great team effort and remarkable energy throughout the competition.

Earlier, Indian men’s badminton team had defeated Malaysia 3-2 to enter the semi-finals of the Thomas Cup for the first time in 43 years, but the women’s team crashed out after losing 0-3 to Thailand in the last eight match of the Uber Cup on Thursday. India, with a win in semis, thus ensured at least a bronze medal in the Thomas Cup.
