Sonia Gandhi Discharged From Sir Ganga Ram Hospital

New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi was discharged from Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Monday after being admitted for eight days for treatment of Covid-related issues. “Congress President Sonia Gandhi has been discharged from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and is advised to take rest,” Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh tweeted.

Gandhi was diagnosed with a lower respiratory tract illness during her treatment at the hospital.

Ramesh had said earlier that Gandhi was admitted to the hospital after profuse bleeding from the nose following a recent Covid infection.

He said that she was immediately put under treatment and underwent a follow-up procedure on June 15.

“A fungal infection in her lower respiratory tract was also detected upon admission. She is currently being treated for it along with other post-Covid symptoms. She continues to be under close observation and treatment,” he tweeted earlier last week.

This comes as the Enforcement Directorate has issued fresh summons to 75-year-old Gandhi to appear before it for questioning on June 23 in connection with a money laundering case linked to the National Herald newspaper.

The Congress president was earlier asked to depose before the federal probe agency on June 8. She, however, sought a fresh date from the Enforcement Directorate as she got infected with Covid-19 on June 2

Earlier in the day, the Enforcement Directorate officials questioned her son and party MP Rahul Gandhi in connection with the same case for the fourth day.

The Congress president’s discharge from the hospital also comes at a time when the nation is witnessing protests against the Central government’s Agnipath recruitment scheme.

Terming the Agnipath scheme “directionless”, Gandhi had earlier said it is unfortunate that the government has ignored the voice of the youth.

“I am sad that the government has ignored your voice and announced a new scheme that is completely directionless,” Gandhi said.

“Several ex-servicemen and defence specialists have also raised questions on this scheme,” she added.

Gandhi asserted the Congress pledges to stand with the protesting youth and work for withdrawal of the Agnipath scheme.

The Congress president also appealed to the youth to adopt peaceful and non-violent means to fight for their demands.
