A roadmap has been prepared to train three lakh farmers in natural farming every month against six lakh who were trained in the last four years, announced Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat during the convocation at Kamdhenu University on Monday.
In his address, Chancellor and Governor Devvrat said that due to the inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the efforts of the state government, an increasing number of farmers are switching to natural farming.
“With the new model of training adopted by the state government, three lakh farmers are being trained in natural farming every month. In the last four years, around six lakh farmers in Gujarat have been trained for practicing natural farming,” the Governor underlined.
Motivating students to work towards increasing the country’s milk yield, the Governor said, “The average milk yield of cattle in the country is three-and-a-half litres. Even with this average, India is the world leader in milk production. If the students work towards improving the breed of cattle so that the average milk production increases to 10 litre, no one can imagine the progress of our country.”
Efforts are being made to increase the production of sex-selection semen and important work is being done in this direction in Gujarat as this technology is very useful for the development of natural agriculture and milk production, he added.
Parshottam Rupala Minister of State for Animal Husbandry, Dairying, and Fisheries too appealed to students to increase the contribution of animal husbandry, fisheries, and dairy industry to the Indian economy.
“Like 108 ambulance services, mobile veterinary units have been started across the country for treatment of animals due to which the cattle breeders will get treatment at their doorstep. In the first phase, 4,000 mobile veterinary ambulances have been sanctioned and Rs 13,000 crore have been allocated for the vaccination of the animals of the entire country,” Rupala said.
Gujarat Cabinet Minister of Animal Husbandry and Cattle Breeding Raghavji Patel while addressing the students said that the importance of animal husbandry, dairy, and fisheries in the economic development of the country is very high.
The minister added that Gujarat has made an important contribution to making India self-sufficient in the field of milk production. “Keeping this in mind, Narendra Modi established Kamdhenu University in 2009 to promote the abundant opportunities in animal husbandry, dairy and fisheries etc,” he stated.
