Vietnamese ride-hailing app Be has scooped up the first prize in the IT category at this year’s Vietnamese Talent Awards.

The award honours outstanding inventions in IT, science and technology, medicine, and environmental programmes. It aims to encourage the replication of successful models to contribute to national development.

The recognition is a testament to Be’s ongoing efforts to scale up its operation. As a homegrown app, Be has expanded its offerings beyond ride-hailing to better serve Vietnamese customers. The app is providing a myriad of other digital services ranging from delivering goods to selling flight tickets and trip insurance.

In addition, Be has also ventured into the digital banking sector by launching Cake by VPBank. After one year of operation, Cake has become one of the fastest-growing digital banks in Southeast Asia with 1.5 million users. During the pandemic, Be has been pioneering grocery delivery services to meet the essential demand of locals.

In April, the company rolled out food delivery beFood to complete its ecosystem. The move is aimed to capitalise on opportunities in Vietnam’s food delivery market, which is estimated to reach $5.7 billion in revenue with a growth rate of 24 per cent by 2025, according to a report by Google, Temasek and Bain Company.

According to the representative of Be Group, the firm has ramped up its operation to 28 cities and provinces in Vietnam. The app has also garnered around 15 million downloads. Thanks to its fast-paced development, Be is now ranked second in Vietnam’s ride-hailing market.
