New Delhi: Employers can now utilise the TAWS-16 tool, developed by the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurological Sciences (Nimhans), to gauge employee work-related stress. TAWS-16 is the first instrument in India to solely assess work-related stress, despite the fact that several businesses are already evaluating their employees’ stress levels in a variety of methods.

Depending on the findings, organisations can alter their policies in a way that will boost productivity and the wellbeing of their workforce. The tool is free to use and is offered by Nimhans in several languages as both a mobile app and a web link. Dr Gautham M S of the Nimhans Centre for Public Health, who oversaw the study that led to the creation of the tool, reportedly said that harmful work stress has been related to numerous non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including mental illnesses, diabetes, and hypertension.

An employee can complete the TAWS questionnaire in five minutes. It assesses many types of workplace stressors relating to an employee’s place in the organisation, professional advancement, the environment and resources of the organisation, and work-life balance. This covers inquiries about deadlines, multitasking, help from superiors, etc.The tool examines the person’s capacity to deal with stressors as well as any psychosomatic symptoms they may experience in addition to stressors (headache, disturbed sleep, etc).

It advises extensive Stress Management Training for people with moderate stress and repeated evaluation and counselling for those with modest work stress levels. The assessment suggests counselling, stress management training, and a clinical work-up for NCD risk for persons who experience extreme occupational stress.
