New Cases In Delhi Go Below 10,000-Mark, Mumbai Reports 2,550 Fresh Infections

New Delhi: Both Delhi and Mumbai have continued to see a decline in the Coronavirus cases as the cities reported 9,197 and 2,550 new infections respectively on Sunday.

According to data shared by the health department, Delhi on Sunday reported 9,197 fresh COVID cases and 34 deaths, as the positivity rate declined to 13.32 per cent. 

The number of daily cases in the national capital has been declining after touching the record high of 28,867 on January 13. In 10 days, the cases have dropped below the 10,000-mark.

Delhi had on Saturday recorded 45 deaths due to COVID, the highest since June 5, and 11,486 cases with a positivity rate of 16.36 per cent. On Friday, the national capital had logged 10,756 cases with a positivity rate of 18.04 per cent and 38 deaths.

As per official figures, As many as 513 people have died to COVID in the national capital so far in January. On this, Health Minister Satyendar Jain and officials stated that most patients had comorbidities, such as cancer, liver or kidney diseases, and COVID wasn’t the primary reason for deaths this time.

The bulletin stated that the number of COVID patients in hospitals has dropped from 2,624 on January 19 to 2,342. Currently, 164 patients are on ventilator support.

Meanwhile, the total number of active COVID cases in Delhi is 54,246. Of these, 42,438 patients are recovering in home isolation.

The health minister had earlier said that the danger of COVID has subsided in Delhi and the situation is “quite under control”.

Mumbai’s Recovery Rate At 96%

Mumbai on Sunday reported 2,550 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally of infections to 10,34,833. The death toll rose to 16,535 after 13 more patients succumbed to the infection.

A statement by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s health department informed that 84 per cent or 2,142 of the 2,550 new patients are asymptomatic. On the other hand, 337 more patients were hospitalised of whom 40 are on oxygen support.

A total of 217 patients were discharged in the financial capital on Sunday, taking the number of recoveries to 9,95,786.

Mumbai currently has 19,808 active cases.

Mumbai’s recovery rate is 96 per cent. The case doubling rate is 125 days.
