NEET twice a year? Health ministry says this

New Delhi: There were rumours floating around that NEET UG exam will be conducted twice a year. Rejecting all such speculations, Union Health Ministry has informed that there is currently no proposal to conduct NEET UG exams twice a year.

“There is no plan to conduct National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for undergraduate courses twice a year,” Union Minister of State for Health and Family Wafare Bharati Pravan Pawar told Lok Sabha yesterday.

“National Medical Commission (NMC) & National Testing Agency (NTA) have informed that there is no proposal to conduct NEET UG exams for providing two chances in a year,” Minister of State for Health and Family Wafare Bharati Pravan Pawar said.

Pawar was responding to BJP’s Ramesh Chand Bind question, who asked if the centre has any plan to hold NEET twice like the engineering entrance test JEE Main, and whether the government is planning to hold these exams through a single window.

“NEET (UG) is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) & the syllabus is based on the syllabi of all the State Boards and National Boards,” Pawar added.

Earlier this week, UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar had said that CUET may be merged with crucial entrance exams like JEE and NEET. He said that it will be announced at least two years in advance. Asked about the proposal to merge CUET with engineering entrance exam JEE and medical entrance exam NEET, UGC chief said, “It is definitely doable. The details are being worked out but whenever the merger happens, announcement will be made at least two years in advance so the students can prepare accordingly.”
