A 26-year-old post-graduate medical student died under mysterious circumstances, with her family alleging that she was harassed by a senior doctor at MVG Medical College in Hoskote. Her body was found in a quarry pit filled with water near Kendatti village in Karnataka’s Kolar, 26 km from her college.
The deceased has been identified as Darshini, a student pursuing MD (Paediatrics). According to a police source, they suspect that she was being harassed by a senior doctor and she was in depression. A case has been registered against a senior doctor at Kolar Rural Police Station and an investigation is currently underway.
A police officer said, “Darshini left her college premises around 11 am on Sunday and took an auto-rickshaw to reach the quarry. Upon arrival, she reportedly made a distressing call to her friend named Mani, informing him about her decision to end her life. But her friend was unable to intervene in time. Later in the afternoon, Darshini’s body was recovered from the quarry pit and sent for post-mortem examination. Friends of Darshini informed us that she had been battling depression and had shared her experiences of harassment by a senior doctor at the hospital.”
Darshini hailed from Ballari and was raised by her mother, who works as a teacher, following her father’s death a few years ago. Having secured a merit seat, she was staying at the college hostel. She is survived by her mother and a brother.
