The Mumbai police Saturday arrested a person for allegedly hurling abuses at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP, Shiv Sena leaders during a Facebook Live session.
The accused has been identified as Ghulam Kazi, who claims to be an RTI activist. He was arrested in Ratnagiri.
Sethiya Nagar resident Kazi spoke on a matter pertaining to an open plot in his area during the Facebook Live session. The said plot has been taken on lease by a housing colony from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Kazi alleged that the members of a community occupying the housing society were trying to usurp the plot.
“During his Facebook Live session on Friday, he abused and threatened the members of the said community,” a police officer said.
“He also hurled abuses at PM Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other MP and MLAs from the BJP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena…” the officer added.
A woman filed a criminal complaint against Kazi at the Sakinaka police station.
“We have registered an FIR against Kazi under Sections 509, 500, 506(2), and 504 of the Indian Penal Code and arrested him in his village in Ratnagiri with the help of the local police and brought him to Mumbai,” said Balwant Deshmukh, senior inspector of Sakinaka police station.
