Former India opener Virender Sehwag, one of the most respected voices in international cricket, has built up a reputation as someone who doesn’t hold back while giving out his opinions. This time, the legendary Indian batter did not mince his words, dropping a bombshell on the most-expensive player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history — Punjab Kings star all-rounder Sam Curran. After Prabhsimran Singh scored a maiden IPL ton to power Punjab Kings to a win over Delhi Capitals, Sehwag lauded the batter for his heroics but somehow dragged Sam Curran into the conversation. In this match, Prabhsimran scored 103 off 65 balls while Curran amassed 20 runs off 24 balls.

“Punjab Kings have benefitted from the chances that they’ve given to Prabhsimran. Now, he has to be consistent. And I think the PBKS will benefit a lot from such a player. When he came for the first time, he was bought for a lot of money (INR 4.8 crore). This time around, he fetched quite less (INR 60 lakh). But he proved his talent today.

“He showed that he can hit those centuries. Again, he was bought for INR 60 lakh, and if a player fetching that much scores hundreds and wins you a couple of games, there can be nothing better than that. You bought Sam Curran for Rs 18.5 crores, what has he done?” Sehwag said in a chat on Cricbuzz.

Prabhsimran Singh has been part of Punjab Kings since 2019. The franchise brought him in IPL 2023 auction for Rs 60 lakh.

England star Sam Curran was bought by Punjab Kings in IPL auction this year for Rs 18.5 crores. However, his performance has been lackluster so far. Curran has so far taken 7 wickets, scoring 216 runs in 12 matches.

After beating Delhi Capitals, Shikhar Dhawan’s Punjab Kings remain alive in IPL 2023 Playoffs race after 6 wins in 6 matches (12 Points). For them to make it to the Playoffs, they need to win their remaining two matches in the league stage.
