Paying tribute to ‘Bapu’ on his ‘Punya Tithi’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday recalled the “heroic sacrifices of all these nice men and women who devoted themselves in the direction of India’s freedom”. President Ram Nath Kovind urged Indians to stick to Mahatma Gandhi’s beliefs of peace, non-violence, simplicity, purity of means and humility.

“Tributes to the good Bapu on his Punya Tithi. His beliefs proceed to encourage tens of millions. On Martyrs’ Day we recall the heroic sacrifices of all these nice men and women who devoted themselves in the direction of India’s freedom and the well-being of each Indian,” PM Modi stated.

“On behalf of a grateful nation, my humble tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi who embraced martyrdom today. We should always adhere to his beliefs of peace, non-violence, simplicity, purity of means and humility. Allow us to resolve to comply with his path of reality and love,” Kovind tweeted.

Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar stated that Gandhi revolutionised the liberty battle within the colonial period by sowing the seeds of ‘Ahimsa’.

Vice chairman Venkaiah Naidu stated, “Mahatma Gandhi’s core values — the necessity to rise above casteism, communalism, regionalism and provincialism — ought to encourage youth at this time.”

Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu tweeted, “Dwell as in case your have been to die tomorrow. Study as should you have been to reside endlessly: #MahatmaGandhi. Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi Ji on his Loss of life Anniversary.”
