Pimpri Chinchwad police registered an offence of negligence against the two office-bearers of the private company where a massive explosion took place on Thursday evening.
Police said the death toll in the incident has reached three while 19 persons who suffered burns due to the explosion are undergoing treatment.
Police sub inspector Tukaram Khadke lodged the FIR in this case at the Alandi police station. As stated in the FIR, police have booked two persons identified as Narendra Surana of Gultekdi and Fanendra Munot of Shivajinagar under sections 304 (a), 427, 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
Police said a massive explosion was reported at the Specific Alloys Private Limited company at Solu village on the Markal Alandi road in Khed taluka of Pune district around 5 pm on Thursday.
Probe revealed that the explosion caused after raw material comprising some inflammable chemicals required for making “aluminium ingots” at the company caught fire. “The company was shut for the last four years. Still the inflammable material was stocked in the company without taking essential precautions, due to which it caught fire and exploded.
Hence an offence of negligence has been lodged against the company owners. No arrest has been made yet, but a probe is on,” said police sub-inspector Rahul Dudhmal, the investigation officer.
Police said that a probe is on to ascertain the cause behind the fire. Samples have been collected from the explosion site for forensic tests for investigation.
Police said the company is located near a residential area having houses and shops.
The explosion was so huge that it created a loud noise and sparks emerging from it fell over a 100-metre area, injuring people and animals and damaging property.
Some of the houses near the company also caught fire.
Several persons who were either residing or passing by the area near the company at the time of the explosion suffered burns. They were admitted to Sassoon hospital.
Two of them Santosh Tryambak Mane (50), a private driver who was residing behind the Cosmos Bank on Alandi road and Nagnath Potanna Panchal (55) of Solu were pronounced dead on Thursday.
Ramchandra Maruti Nimbalkar (80), resident of Solu, succumbed to his injuries Friday.
