Defence Ministry Acquires Land In Arunachal Pradesh’s Border Village

NEW DELHI: Amid the border pressure with China, the defence ministry has moved to amass strategic land 30 km from the road of precise management (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh to ascertain a navy garrison.

The land parcel, measuring 14.128 acres, is situated within the village of Yorni II in West Siang district.

The agricultural growth ministry has notified the defence ministry as “acceptable authority” beneath Proper to Truthful Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 for acquisition of the land within the village, which has a inhabitants of about 150.

Which means the defence ministry has now been given authority over the land.

In line with sources, the transfer follows a letter from the house ministry advising acquisition of this land for establishing “navy garrison and finding numerous military detachments”.

As per Proper to Truthful Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013, any land could be acquired for defence functions, railways and communication with out the requirement of a Gram Sabha assembly.

The defence ministry has been step by step buying strategic land alongside the Sino-Indian border over the previous few months. This additionally alerts a change within the Centre’s stance in direction of creating border infrastructure. Earlier, it was felt that border infrastructure, particularly roads, could be utilized by China for an invasion. Nonetheless, there was a change on this stance with huge land acquisitions, particularly in villages alongside the border.

The present land acquisition follows an identical transfer within the north-eastern border state in October. The ministry had acquired 200 acres of Lungro Grazing floor in Tawang district to develop defence infrastructure.
