Chennai: The Greater Chennai Corporation has started to reduce the number of Fever Survey Workers (FSWs) as COVID-19 cases are reducing in many zones of the city. The FSWs are responsible for conducting door-to-door surveys to collect information on residents having fever, flu or any other illness. If the people start to show symptoms of COVID-19 infection, the volunteers will also help them take tests.
According to a report in IANS, the workers were paid Rs 391 per day. However, the Corporation has decided to reduce the number of workers from 60 per cent to 30 per cent since the COVID-19 cases have declined in several wards of North Chennai. The number of workers in North Chennai including the Tiruvottiyur zone were reduced as per the requirement. However, the contract of the workers has been extended till September in Adyar where the COVID-19 cases continue on an upward curve.
