New Delhi: India has been strengthening the fight against COVID-19 by adding more vaccines to prevent severe COVID-19 infections which could eventually lead to mortality.
Today Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Health Minister stated that India’s fight with COVID-19 in now stronger as more vaccines have been approved by Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation, (CDSCO) for the age group of 5-12 years in the fight against COVID-19.
The last few days have seen COVID-19 infections rising amongst the Indian population with Delhi NCR reporting the maximum number of COVID-19 infections, since the relaxation of COVID-19 protocols.
The Government of India has not yet issued any statements about the fourth wave but the rising number of infections has become a concern. The Union Cabinet has called for a meeting to assess the situation in the country and take appropriate action, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be chairing the meeting via video conference on April 27, 2022.
The approved vaccines for children will strengthen the fight against COVID infections amongst children. The vaccines approved are ‘Covaxin’ for age group 6 to < 12, ‘Corbevax’ for age group 5 to < 12, and two doses of ‘ZyCoV-D’ for the age group above 12. These vaccines have been approved under ‘Restricted Use in Emergency Situations’.
With the approval of Covaxin and Corbevax, India has approved COVID-19 vaccines for five years and above.
