Chennai-based artwork director Bala Govind Kumar’s digital artwork sequence, ‘Quarantine Days’, is a visible diary of his feelings
When Bala Govind Kumar examined constructive for COVID-19 on April 26 in Chennai, he spent 14 days in isolation at his rented house in Kilpauk, feeling lonely and listless. By lately, he used his iPad to create a visible diary of his feelings by artwork.
The sequence of six work, ‘Quarantine Days’, is an exploration of the idea of self. “All I may see was myself. Why not create self-portraits, I believed,” says Bala, whose fashion is vastly impressed by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. He recorded a video of himself engaged in numerous each day chores and made a montage of the stills for his first work titled Rooted. It reveals variations of himself staring out the window and on the ceiling, consuming, and taking a look at his telephone.
For the 25-year-old self-taught artist and architect hailing from Tirunelveli and dealing as an artwork director in Chennai, this was a therapeutic course of. “Artwork is my pure means of self-expression. And it made my days of isolation simpler to bear.”
Bala selected to work digitally because it didn’t require him to exit to obtain artwork provides. “In one other time, I’d have most popular acrylic or oil paint. Bala plans to exhibit his works when the COVID-19 scenario improves.
Presently in Tirunelveli, he’s engaged on a sequence, ‘Misplaced Goat’, which is a quest to rediscover his hometown by its wealthy custom of people artwork.
