The Mumbai Police on Thursday arrested Aniksha Jaisinghani, daughter of Anil Jaisinghani, named by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the Legislative Assembly as the person behind an attempt to frame him and his family.
Aniksha, who was arrested from her Ulhasnagar residence, has been booked under Section 120 (B) (conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and under Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 on February 20 by Malabar Hill police station for allegedly offering to provide Fadnavis’ wife Amruta Fadnavis information on bookies – through whom they could allegedly earn money – and then directly offering Rs 1 crore to get her (Aniksha’s) father off the hook in a police case.
An officer said multiple teams, including Crime Branch and Thane Police officers conducted the search at the Ulhasnagar home. “Anil Jaisinghani’s daughter Aniksha and son Akshan were present at the house… As we raided the house, Akshan complained of chest pain and our teams took him to a nearby hospital. He is admitted there and has not been arrested,” the officer added.
In searches conducted early Thursday, the police recovered more than 10 electronic devices from the house. “We are trying to ascertain whether the seized electronic devices were used to threaten Amruta Fadnavis,” said the officer.
Sources said Aniksha is not cooperating with police and had initially refused to allow teams to enter her house. “She was arrested on Thursday evening and will be produced in special court on Friday,” said the officer.
